La Costa Heights' Updates
Dear La Costa Heights Families,
I wanted you to be aware that we have had two identified cases of pertussis (whooping cough) at our school. While this is very rare, we have an obligation to keep you informed.
Earlier this week all families received a letter outlining information on symptoms. Copies of this letter are also available in the office.
If you have any additional questions regarding pertussis (whooping cough), you may call the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Immunization Branch at (619) 692-8661 and ask to speak with a Public Health Nurse.
Mrs. Brady
I’d like to compliment our students on a fabulous transition back to school.
The past two weeks have been delightful and we are motivated for another outstanding year.
Thank you parents, for coming out last night to Back to School Night. What an amazing turn-out!
Hello and welcome back to school! We are excited and ready for another fabulous year. For those of you who are new to La Costa Heights, I would like to personally welcome you to the best school on Earth!
Classes begin this Monday, August 16, 2010. Be sure to spread the word as many new families often assume that school resumes after Labor Day. School hours are 8:00AM- 2:20PM Monday through Thursday. Friday are minimum days and students are dismissed at 12:45PM. I would like to bring your attention to a change in our district calendar for the 2010-2011 school year. The first Friday, August 20, 2010, will actually be a no student/teacher in-service day. Our extended day program at the school will have childcare available on that day. Please contact them directly for hours and fees.
Remember to check your child’s backpack regularly for information and forms needing to be returned. First day packets will be coming home on Monday and will need to be returned promptly. Thank you to our fund raising team who worked all summer to prepare for our first annual WAVE fund drive. While the state budget covers our core academic needs, your contribution to the WAVE Fund Drive will support academic enrichment programs, continuing those we already have and potentially adding those you and your teachers want – science, technology and physical education consultants, new classroom technology, books and playground supplies. Our goal is to raise more than $125,000. The more money we raise, the more enrichment programs we can add.
Finally, Back to School Night for grades 1st-6th will be the SECOND Thursday back, August 26, 2010. Special education will open their doors from 5:15-6:00PM, grades 4th-6th from 6:00-6:45PM, and grades 1st-3rd from 7:00-7:45PM. Be sure to mark your calendars and look for more information coming home. Please note that kindergarten has already held their orientation, so be sure to contact your child’s teacher directly if you happened to have missed it.
I am elated about the upcoming school year and can’t wait to spend it with your children!
Warmly,
Leighangela Brady
Principal
